About the Thunder Beach Motorcycle Rally
In the spring of 2000, the Bike & Beach Bash at the Sandpiper Beacon Beach Resort became known as the Thunder Beach Motorcycle Rally. Since a few thousand people attended the first event more than 20 years ago, the Rally has continued to grow in popularity. With more than 58,000 attendees in 2008, the event has become one of the country’s largest free rallies, with over 60,000 attendees descending on the Gulf Coast every May and October.
Besides drawing tens of thousands of motorcycle riders and enthusiasts, the Rally also brings motorcycle manufacturers and parts dealers to vendor booths and tents. Today, you can see big names with leather and chrome accessories, stereo systems, seats, engine parts, and just about anything else motorcycle-related that you could imagine.
Rally attendees can enjoy a wide range of activities, from bike parades and beauty pageants to concerts and stunt shows. Spread over four locations throughout Panama City Beach, the Rally promises something for everyone, from the diehard biker to the casual fan.
Where is the Thunder Beach Motorcycle Rally?
Each of the Rally’s locations (Harley-Davidson PCB, Frank Brown Park, and Crossroads) host different vendors, so be sure to stop by each spot to see everything. You’ll find many national and local businesses offering food, art, jewelry, patches, biker apparel, hats, upholstery, coating and finishing services, stereo equipment, and so much more. Each of these locations offers varying activities; you might find live music all five days at Frank Brown Park, for example, but only Thursday – Saturday at the Harley Davidson location. Demo rides are offered every day at Frank Brown Park, but not at other locations. Bike Parade at the Thunder Beach Motorcycle Rally
Starting at Frank Brown Park and ending at Pier Park, the bike parade is the best way to see—and hear!—the various motorcycles attending the Rally. You’ll see a multitude of types and sizes, including new, classic, and custom bikes, during this highlight of the Thunder Beach Motorcycle Rally.
The bike parade typically takes place on the Saturday morning of the four-day event. The parade was first introduced in 2005, and is officially known as the Sgt. Kevin Knight Memorial Bike Ride, to honor the memory of an area police officer who was shot and killed in March of that year. Bike riders and spectators are encouraged to donate food and nonperishable items to local charities, which will benefit those in need.
Thunder Beach Motorcycle Rally Stunt Shows
These free stunt shows are an absolute must-see at the Thunder Beach Motorcycle Rally. Watch performers pull off heart-pounding flips, jumps, and other amazing daredevil acts the whole family will enjoy. Get ready to see lots of wheelies, burnouts, and more! You just never know what you might see at one of these amazing stunt shows. In 2017 and 2018, for example, the all-female Circus Una wowed the audience with high-wire motorcycle balancing acts and trapeze-style tricks.
Other events include a 12-class bike show with 1st- and 2nd-place trophies in each class, including Paint, Chopper, Bagger, Stock, Antique, and Pro Build. Awards are given for Best Custom Bike, Best Restored Bike, and more. Recent events have included a tattoo competition, karaoke, poker runs, audio competitions, and bikini bike washes. And, of course, plenty of great food and drinks from local restaurants. As an added bonus, parking at all Rally venues is free!
