Explore the St. Andrews Park on Your Panama City Beach Vacation

Spanning more than 1,200 acres, St. Andrews Park is a must-see when visiting Panama City. With so many things to see and do, you can easily spend an afternoon at the park. Go for a boat ride, lounge on the beach, or hike one of the trails. The park is just 2.6 miles from our 3 bedroom condos in Panama City Beach.

Beaches

St. Andrews Park is home to more than 1.5 miles of white sandy beaches. Go for a stroll, or soak up the sun. The park has some of the best-preserved sand dunes in the world.

The mainland beach is easily accessible from two parking areas. Boardwalks help preserve the dunes while making the beaches easy to access. If you’re looking for a more secluded beach, take the ferry or paddle your way to Shell Island.

The beaches at St. Andrews Park offer great opportunities for photographers and bird watchers to catch a glimpse of some rare birds and wildlife.

Things to Do

Whether you’re looking to spend a relaxing afternoon with your sweetheart or go on  a fun adventure with the kids, St. Andrews Park has something for everyone.

Take a leisurely bike ride through the park’s two-mile paved road. Pack a picnic, or hike one of the park’s two trails: Gator Lake and Heron Pond. The trails offer excellent opportunities to view some of the local wildlife, including wading birds, waterfowl and even alligators.

The boat ramp gives you access to the Gulf of Mexico and Shell Island. Shuttle boat tours to Shell Island are also available in the spring and summer.

For those who want to spend the night, there are two campground loops near Grand Lagoon with 176 camp sites in total. These sites have water, electricity, grills and picnic tables. Reservations for campground spots can be made up to 11 months in advance.

If you’re looking to spend some time out on the water, bring a kayak to paddle around Grand Lagoon, or spend the afternoon fishing at one of the two fishing piers. Catches include bluefish, flounder, redfish, Spanish mackerel and sea trout.

Of course, you can also go for a swim. There’s also a kid-friendly lagoon with clear, shallow water for the kids to play in.

The nearby concession stand sells bait, snacks, souvenirs and a few grocery items. You can also rent chairs, kayaks, umbrellas and snorkeling gear. There are a few stores in the park which are open throughout most of the year.

Pets are welcome at the park as long as they’re on a 6-foot leash and are well behaved. Just be advised that pets are not allowed on the playground, beach or wetlands.

If you want to learn more about the park, check out the campfire circle, which is held from Memorial Day through Labor Day. Rangers will tell you all about the local wildlife and the history of the park.

St. Andrews Park is open 8am through sundown every day of the year. Entry fees are just $8 per vehicle with 2-8 passengers, $4 for single-occupant vehicles, and $2 for pedestrians, bicyclists and extra vehicle passengers. Other fees apply to tour buses, camping and boat launches.
